The fight to secure a place at the 2024 UCI World Championships is already underway, with recent events in Belgium (UEC European Championships) and Australia marking the start of intense competition.
In April 2024, reigning M40 UCI Gravel World Champion Johnny Hoogerland will host a race in Austria, followed by the Giro Sardegna Gravel in Italy. The series expands globally with the Safari Gravel Race in Kenya and the Hegau Gravel festival in Germany. Switzerland joins forces with Gravel Suisse in Villars-sur-Ollon, while the UK presents an event in Wales, highlighting the “Brwydr y Graean” in Ruthin. For now we are pointing out some of the tests but in POLVU we will tell you about each of them.
POLVU celebrates the inclusion of two new ones in Spain, the Indomable on April 20, 2024, and that the qualifiers will culminate in Sea Otter Europe in Girona, Spain, on September 21, tests that Alejandro Valverde himself won last year. With sixteen events captivating more than 1,000 riders in 2023, expectations are high for the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships, scheduled for October 5-6, with a stunning ride from Halle to Leuven, passing through the Brabant Forests, which was recently declared a national park.
The 2024 season introduces new rules, such as a minimum lap distance of 40km for local races and the Elite category in qualifying events, challenging riders to decide between seeking glory in Elite or in their age category. Excitement is guaranteed with every turn of the wheel.
