An apartment in Girona (Sant Jordi Desvalls), comfort, details, spaciousness... made by cyclists. I'm interested.
I don't know if you've ever read that Girona is the epicenter of gravel and cycling in the world... It's been explained so many times that we don't want to sound repetitive. But the truth is that the good climate, the well-maintained roads, and the variety of terrain make this area a paradise for any cyclist.
It's no coincidence that both professionals and amateurs choose this corner for riding, whether on the curves of the Costa Brava or the mountain routes inland. And when it comes to gravel, few areas are more "gravel-friendly."
Of course, not everyone is lucky enough to live nearby, and many of us need to stay locally. But finding a good place has become difficult, especially depending on the time of year.
This is where Mónica and Miquel come in, introducing us to their new apartment: the Pi Pinyoner Eco-Apartment.

"We are Miquel and Mònica, and this apartment is our project, made with our hearts. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed building it."
The story of Pi Pinyoner begins in 2021, although we didn't know it at the time. That year, Miquel was hired to cut down some large stone pines in the garden of a house on the outskirts of Sant Jordi. Over time, the trees had grown so large that they posed a risk to the house, so action was needed.
What we couldn't imagine at the time was that this event would mark the beginning of our apartment's history. It wasn't until 2024 that we acquired the property, and little by little, the idea of transforming the space into an eco-tourist apartment began to take shape. When thinking about the decor and the essence we wanted to convey, Miquel remembered those stone pines he had cut down years before, which, since then, had been resting in a warehouse, undergoing their natural drying process.
Although Miquel had never made furniture before—his profession was different—all the elements of the furniture immediately came to mind. And, as is often the case in life, when an idea is clearly visualized, it eventually materializes. With patience and dedication, he shaped each piece, respecting the wood and its history, transforming those trees into unique pieces of furniture, full of soul.
Wood is a living element, and when worked with love and awareness, its essence endures. Thus, Pi Pinyoner is not just an apartment, but also a tribute to nature and the cycle of life, where what was once root and leaf now welcomes and gives life to a new project.
Monica i Miquel
The apartment is located in the old town of Sant Jordi Desvalls, a medieval village just 20 km from Girona and close to the beaches of the Costa Brava, just in case you still have time for a swim after cycling. Surrounded by nature and with the Ter River flowing through the area (ideal for exploring the Ter Route), it's a great starting point.
But beware, this isn't your typical apartment. It was designed by and for cyclists, and Mónica and Miquel are. From the moment you walk through the door, you can feel the attention to detail and that pleasant feeling of having made the right choice and feeling at home.
As Mónica and Miquel explained, the handmade furniture is made from wood from a century-old stone pine, which gives the apartment its name.

It features all the modern amenities and details designed for cyclists, including specific equipment such as bike racks and a small repair kit, to make the experience as comfortable as possible after a day on the bike.
In terms of layout, the living area has a fully equipped kitchen-dining room, a sofa bed, and a table for up to six people.

The sleeping area is divided into two bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. There are also two separate bathrooms, one with a bathtub and the other with a shower.

Sant Jordi Desvalls is a small town with a rich history, located in a strategic area between the city of Girona and the beaches of the Costa Brava. Its origins date back to Roman times, thanks to its location on the road that connected Girona to Empúries.
The old town center has retained its medieval atmosphere, with narrow, winding streets where the remains of the castle and the church of Sant Jordi can still be seen. The village's old houses retain architectural elements from bygone eras, such as voussoired doorways, Gothic windows, and decorated lintels, which add an authentic and historic touch.
So if you're looking for a charming place, designed with attention to detail in the heart of Empordà, the Pi Pinyoner Eco-Apartment is our recommendation.
